In an attempt better represent Christians in Buxton and the surrounding area, Buxton Christians Football Club has initiated a ‘100 club’, where supporters of the club’s aims are invited to give £10 each to become “Friends of Buxton Christians’ for the 2007/08 season. It is hoped that these friends will support the club in whatever way they feel able to: prayer, following to club’s match reports and league tables in the Buxton Advertiser, or attending matched. The club intends to keep the ‘friends’ informed of developments through the regular club fanzine. It is hoped that through the ‘100 club’ Buxton Christians will become better known, and therefore more supported in prayer and other ways by the Christians of Buxton and the surrounding area.
The £1000 raised from the 100 club will be spent on two players from the club going on a football ministry trip to Spain in April 2008, organized by Ambassadors to Sport, a worldwide Christian sports charity. The trip will involve prison visits, coaching sessions with underprivileged children, and lots of football matches all with the aim of spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.
We believe this trip could be a significant step for two of the young men we work with to glimpse something of the wider joys and battles of the Christian life beyond the confines of Buxton Christians Football Club.
If you would like to become a ‘friend of Buxton Christians’ and join the 100 Club, send your name, address, church details and £10 cheque or cash to Michael and Beky Stanway at 43 Heath Grove, Buxton, SK17 9HH or ring them on 01298 27903 if you would like more details.
