DID YOU KNOW?
Of the 37 clubs that have played in the English Premier League, since its inception, 12 can trace their origin directly to a church. So, who knows what the future holds for BCFC?

BUXTON CHRISTIANS FC

We train during the season on Wednesdays and play on Saturdays.

Buxton Christians Football Club has been playing in the local Hope Valley League for the past five seasons. We started off as a bunch of lads playing for fun in the park, moved on to friendlies, and then in 2005 took the plunge into playing regular Saturday afternoon football in the local secular, FA affiliated league.

There have been many changes over the years. Christians from several churches were involved initially but the vast majority left the club to spend more time with their own church activities or their families. However the teenage lads from the area remained keen to stick together so we felt we had to stick with them too, and we have been amply rewarded by God in many ways.

We have played in all three divisions of the Hope Valley League, gaining two promotions, and one relegation. The 2010/11 season will see us playing in the middle of the three divisions, division A.

Despite all the changes our values have remained the same; to honour Jesus Christ in all we say and do. This has been hard at times but as a club we remain undaunted, and determined. We believe we have had a positive effect, not only on the lads in our team, but also on other clubs, officials and spectators who we come into contact with. Thirsty work, being treasurer

We sometimes play 'friendlies' outside the league. We have hosted matches in Buxton - playing against various teams. We've even played against a Brazilian team in a six-a-side tournament at Buxton Community School. A team made up of youngsters and a few of us 'oldies' went to Scotland to play against a team from an Edinburgh Baptist Church.

Praying before the match

Our aim in these events is not to 'win at all costs', but to have a good time while behaving in a manner of which Jesus would approve - both on and off the pitch.

Some say we have an unfair advantage
because our goalie is able to levitate!

Manager, Andy Tooze

We aim to extend our footballing horizons even further. As in most areas of life there is a number of possible ways forward. Our desire is to stay close to God so that we can move forward in the way He wants. Please pray that we will be able to do this, as well as thanking Him for what has already been achieved through our footballing activities.

Oh, the pain of being a manager!
